VOPE Activities and Affiliations

40. Purpose and mission
Mission: Eval Nexus is a newly established international Voluntary Organization for Professional Evaluation (VOPE) dedicated to strengthening evaluation theory, practice, and use within the complex and interconnected fields of humanitarian action, development cooperation, and peacebuilding (the HDP nexus). Our mission is to foster a global community of practice that promotes high-quality, ethical, and context-sensitive evaluations to improve the effectiveness, accountability, and learning of interventions aimed at addressing crises, promoting sustainable development, and building lasting peace worldwide. Objectives: • • • • • • Promote HDP Nexus Thinking in Evaluation: Advocate for and support the integration of HDP nexus perspectives in evaluation design, implementation, and utilization, recognizing the interdependencies between these sectors. Enhance Evaluation Capacity: Build the capacity of evaluators, commissioners, and users of evaluation working in the HDP space through knowledge sharing, training, and peer learning opportunities. Foster Collaboration and Networking: Create a global platform for evaluators, researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and organizations involved in HDP interventions to connect, collaborate, and share experiences and innovations in evaluation. Advance Methodological Development: Encourage the development and adaptation of robust and appropriate evaluation methodologies suited to the unique challenges and dynamics of HDP contexts. Champion Ethical Evaluation Practices: Promote adherence to high ethical standards in HDP evaluations, ensuring sensitivity to conflict dynamics, vulnerability, and cultural contexts. Strengthen Evaluation Use: Facilitate the uptake and use of evaluation findings to inform policy, programming, and practice for improved outcomes in humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding efforts globally.

Developing and disseminating resources, guidance materials, and case studies on HDP evaluation. Facilitating online forums and communities of practice for knowledge exchange. Collaborating with other VOPEs, academic institutions, and international organizations to advance the field of HDP evaluation. Advocating for the value and importance of rigorous evaluation in the HDP nexus.
